Wheels, generally compose of a wheel hub and a tyre, are safety critical items of any transportation devices. The wheels must be able to withstand the loads of the vehicle, provide necessary traction and safely handle the variety of maneuvers within the design usage and operating conditions.
To understand the strength of scooter wheels and their failure behaviors, we have put a number of plastic hub pneumatic scooter wheels to an ultimate strength test on an Instron 5982 universal testing machine at the laboratory of HKPolyU Industrial Centre.
